Wow! Multi-millions of views on YouTube. Susan Boyle’s appearance on “Britains Have Talent” has captured the world’s attention … and moved millions to tears. Everybody who saw was affected … everybody.
Why? What touched us so deep down we were forced to watch it beginning to end more than once? What ‘possessed’ us to immediately tell our friends about it and insist they watch? What inspired that audience to turn around so quickly to cheer and support rather than jeer and ridicule.
Was it her singing voice? I suspect not. A very good voice for sure, but so is Celine Dion.
No, it was something else.
Getting Audacious
I suspect it was Susan’s audacity in the face of all that negativity and scorn. Susan was audacious. Audacious defined as:
- extremely bold or daring; recklessly brave; fearless
- extremely original; without restriction to prior ideas; highly inventive
- recklessly bold in defiance of convention, propriety, law, or the like; insolent; brazen.
- lively; unrestrained; uninhibited: an audacious interpretation of her role.
Through her fear, she completely and assuredly believed in herself and what she was doing despite everyone else’s doubt and negativity all around her. What an actress.
To be newsworthy, you need to be a bit more like Susan.
Step out of your everyday. Reach high. Think big. Be humble.
Whether you are already ‘famous’, or if no one has ever heard of you … same questions …
- What are you doing that’s audacious?
- How are you going to rivet people’s attention on what you are doing?
- How are you going to touch our hearts?
Those answers will make you newsworthy.
Oh … I almost forgot … never judge a book by its cover 
What an audacious article! Inspiring, and riveting and right on the money. I received more than 8 separate forwardings of Susan Boyles YouTube performance from friends and acquaintances from all walks of life. Isn’t it grand that people were able to “see through” her outer package into her inner soul and the beauty and talent combined there.

The topic actually gets deeper still when you consider the level of audacity you are dialing in for yourself. Watch out for the Janet Jackson syndrome … that’s where you lose your balance between audacity for eyeballs only or audacity that engages, stimulates and create positive memory factor. Not an easy think.
Good news! We’re still able to appreciate true beauty and talent!

I also agree with Susan herself… she wants to be taken at face value, why DOES she need a “makeover”? There is nothing “wrong” with her in the first place- If everyone all looked alike- the world would be a boring place and these “shining stars” would not be apparent.
Beauty lies in many forms and Susan showed her beauty to the world. What an amazing and inspiring moment. She not only touched millions, but I’m sure she touched her own inner spirit in a way that she hadn’t anticipated. Way to go, Susan!

Susan Boyle has a great voice, if she only look good then she could have been a fast rising star. the music industry is also like showbiz, somehow you need to look good if you want to become famous fast.
